Lou Ohki and Cheryl Reid from Merced Boys Girls Club were presented by Lee Andersen. They brought us up to date on various programs offered by the club. Read All About It! Click Here for pdf

Done like you’ve never seen before. This video from the small Yupiq Eskimo Village of Quinhagak, Alaska , was a school computer project intended for the other Yupiq villages in the area. Much to the villagers’ shock, over a half million people have viewed it.
For those of us a little older, we know the phrase from the Film Industry”Jargon” for: “It’s done”. (The film is processed and placed into a metal enclosure resembling a flat can with a lid.)
The Annual Pancake Breakfast went off without any major hitch. Ohhh…. there were the little things, such as… I forgot to pick up the keys on Friday at 2:15.
I made a mad dash to the Merced High School, went into the office, and pleaded my case. Fortunatly, Becky in the office found Tony’s number, called it left a message and shortly after, Sylvia called and offered to drop the keys off at my house after 7:30 that night. Saved!
Then there was the “Have you seen the two bolts for the PCB trailer?” Vern was good enough to run over to Orchard and buy Two bolts.
Even though there were the little things, overall, everything went off without a hitch.
I couldn’t help but notice, most everyone, fell right into The Groove, including myself. Things simply Got Done. I interpret this as “We have a good team!”
Patronage was another issue. Separate topic, different Post.
Good Job Everyone!

I have to say, it was a lot of work. John Carlos and I spent several days building the display boards, all the while I had a bad head cold. Needless to say, I DID NOT FEEL GOOD! I wanted to crawl into a cave and sleep it off. No rest for the wicked.
John came through like a trooper. We shopped for the lumber that we needed, got it home to my shop and fabricated the necessary components. John was absent the next couple of days, (some vacation thing) but Sheila Sellers came to the rescue and helped staple 600 plus posters to the 7 or so 4×8 sheets of plywood, both sides.
We finished, Sunday at midnight.
Next, my good friend from the local Lions club, Jim Weaver showed up at my house at 7am Monday morning, loaded the boards and stands and was at the front door of the mall @ 7:30am to offload to the area in front of JC Penneys.
Bill Taylor, opened the doors at the preplanned 7:30 and noticed that the displays went up pretty quick. Thanks Bill Taylor for helping us out with the display space!
The displays were up from the 10th to the 18th. Wednesday morning at @ 8am, Jim Weaver and John Carlos (back from vacation) loaded up the displays and we trundled out to Pizza and Fun to drop off all of the displays for assembly later. I went out later with the Reis-Christian’s and set-up the displays… once again.
When I got back to the hall in Winton, the chairs were arranged, and the stage was decorated. A quick glance around and I knew we were set for 1st annual YPC Awards ceremony. after a quick dinner at Pizza N Fun, we started greeting people.
The rest is now history.

Stop by the Merced Mall and take a look!
I managed to attend the Greater Kiwanis Club Monday and Present the YPC Project as a Program. (Michael Perce was not able to attend) Al Smith was there and there seemed to be good support for the concept.
As of the last board meeting, the YPC project has officially started! $100 was voted in as our donation to the YPC project as one of the Prizes to be given.
One of our members will present the award when the date is set for the ceremony. I think it is on the Young Patriot Challenge web site. Click Here, visit and look over the site.
Dave & Kathy Brown is on the YPC committee. More to follow.
